Help make this space what the community wants it to be! Band together with the groups of community activists and dedicated citizens who are hell bent on converting the vacant lot at 61 Franklin Street into a garden for the neighborhood.

The best way to get involved is plug into the first community outreach meeting. On the agenda is discussion of  community involvement and brainstorming ideas for the site. Have you been super eager to volunteer with NAG but not quite sure how to exactly plug into a project? We are super pleased to introduce our new Volunteer Coordinator, Julia Morrow. One of our main goals for our Happy Hour will be to get to know her and hear about all her amazing plans to get you volunteers involved in all the NAG action!

Plan to drop by after work and join us for a little volunteer happy hour! 

In 2013 NAG has a packed calendar of ways to engage in some civic action and make a difference on your favorite corner of the neighborhood. Be a part of the team that organizes the world’s favorite pop-up park event,  Williamsburg Walks. Participate in the planning for a community- built & maintained open space, the 61 Franklin Street Garden. Educate yourself on how development works in NYC and join others in raising a collective voice to keep our local community strong.

NAG has a legacy of making change in the community, banding together to fight the problems, turning trash-heaps into neighborhood spaces, neighbors into friends, projects into a party. Join us tomorrow as we continue to plan for that neighborhood we all want…

Now it’s your turn to show us Your Lawn!!!

Bedford Ave is peppered with grassy lawns during Williamsburg Walks, giving all of us a little green space to relax on while enjoying the buzz of our main drag. After the Walks, each week, NAG is giving away our sod from Williamsburg Walks.  First come, first served.

If you come and volunteer from 730pm-9pm, helping us fold cafe tables & chairs, get stuff back to the NAG office, and roll up sod, then you get first dibs at grabbing some sod for your lawn. Meet @ NAG table in front of Northside Pharmacy @ N7th. You will get to grab your grass @ 9pm.

Otherwise, the street opens @ 930pm and the sod is up for grabs –walk or drive it away.

We have a lot of grass and we dont want any of it to go to waste, so please spread the word — Free Sod on Bedford Ave.

With some love and attention, you can turn some free sod patches into a great green space!

If you could give the neighborhood a grade,what would it be?

Join new and long-time community members as we discuss the crucial issues in Greenpoint and Williamsburg, things like affordable housing, tenant rights, homelessness, transportation, safe streets, public schools, development and city infrastructure, open space, parks, and environmental justice.

NAG will be presenting a Community Report Card talking baout where we’re at and where we’ve been on these issues. Community members can then discuss and decide on the main issues that are the most important right now; the issues that need action to make our neighborhoods more livable.

After selecting our community’s most important issues,  come out the following  Saturday to the State of the Neighborhood Forum  to discuss how we are going to take action and make changes in our neighborhoods!

Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint 2010

TASTE Williamsburg Greenpoint is a culinary benefit to build the Northside Town Hall, a joint project between NAG & the People’s Firehouse. This outdoor celebration of North Brooklyn’s local flavor is held rain or shine, featuring sample tastes from over 40 of the neighborhood’s best restaurants, breweries, and wineries, along with live music and more…

This is one of the major fundraisers to raise $$ to build the Town Hall and WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to make it a success!

To help you persuade your friends, we’re offering all volunteers a snazzy t-shirt, 4 taste tickets & 2 drink tickets, and that warm fuzzy feeling that comes with building community,  in addition to the opportunity to work alongside and meet many awesome people such as yourselves!

The event is SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2011, 1 – 6PM.

Volunteer shifts run from 11-3pm & 3pm-7pm

Many thanks to the wonderful Weed Day volunteers who came out on Saturday to help out at East River State Park!!! This fab group of community folks focused their energy on pulling weeds in the children’s playground area. The first workday event was a great success and we look forward to seeing more of you next time. Big props to everyone who took time out of their busy weekends to help beautify our park. We are especially grateful to Park Manager Andrew Bogardt and his staff for their help and to OLD POLAND BAKERY for the wonderful pastries!!!

Friends of East River State Park is sponsoring a volunteer day this Saturday to weed and clean up the park. Come out, meet your neighbors and help make our parks a bit nicer.
